    FILLMORE ERA Country Joe and the Fish at Chicago’s Electric Theater July 1968
    Near Mint. Handbill advertising Country Joe and The Fish with Hawk; Rotary Connection with Growin Concern. Country Joe MacDonald was famous at this time for his “Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die Rag,” and other Vietnam War protest songs. Rotary Connection was one of Chicago’s top rock/soul bands and featured 5-octave singer Minnie Riperton. This concert with Country Joe McDonald was held just a month before the now-historic 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention began. ORIGINAL--NOT A REPRODUCTION.  8.5 x 11 handbill by artist Mark Twain Behrens from 1968 (Behrens later moved to the West Coast where he continued to do did rock concert posters and flyers). Advertises two billings during the first week of July at Chicago’s premier rock palace of the day, Aaron Russo’s Electric Theatre (also referred to as the Kinetic Playground). Russo was Bette Midler’s manager after this period, and later a film maker of some note (“Wise Guys,” “Trading Places” (starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd) and “The Rose.”). And in 2004 he was the Libertarian Party candidate for President of the United States.
    These have been in my possession since the 1968 concert, which I attended.
    Printed black on a pumpkin-yellow stock with a background of then-current newspaper clippings about the Vietnam War from Chicago newspapers.
